HOW CONSTRUCTION HAPPENS IN THE DELAWARE VALLEY

ABOUT SCA WHO WE ARE

WHAT WE DO AND HOW WE DO IT

In early 1961, a group of contractors met to discuss trying to unite other contractors working in their business. By July 1961, the group applied for a State charter for Articles of Incorporation, as a non-profit association. They were granted the charter and the Suburban Contractors Association of Pennsylvania was formed. As the association grew from the small meeting in 1961, consisting of working contractors, a decision was made to include the businesses that supply equipment and materials to do their jobs and thereby creating our Associate Membership. The association has grown over the past 40 years to include 230 Active and Associate members.

The purpose or purposes for which the corporation was formed are to promote more cordial and cooperative relations between contractors and those with whom they have contractual relations; to coordinate heavy equipment so that it will be readily available and easily accessible for civil defense; to protect the legislative field of activity of contractors against encroachment by governmental or other agencies; to eliminate waste and reduce cost of construction through research and through cooperation with other agencies involved in construction activities; to secure uniformity of action among the individual members upon such principals as may be decided upon as being for the best interest of the industry; to seek correction of injuries, discriminatory or unfair business method practiced by or against contractors; to provide a means for the amicable adjustment of differences between members of the Association and labor without work stoppage.

Our association holds regular membership meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Concordville Inn, Rt. 1 & Rt. 322, Concordville, Pennsylvania, at 6:30 pm. This is a time for us to get together, exchange information and obtain instruction on many different topics that are picked each month for the improvement of our companies. Our membership consists of professionals in their respective fields of expertise in the construction industry. The majority of our active membership work in Excavation, Heavy Highway Construction, Paving, Concrete, Landscaping and Utility Construction. Our associate membership are suppliers of materials, sales of equipment and other related type of businesses to help us do our jobs.
